Chicago studio Kwong von Glinow has proposed a housing concept for the very congested Hong Kong. The proposal imagines apartment units to be stacked vertically on top of each other. The finished structure would have a pyramid-like appearance and each successive floor would have a smaller footprint, thereby opening up space between the upper floors of the homes. Each of the customizable apartments would be initially assembled in an off-site location and then brought to the site and then stacked on top of each other according to the needs of future inhabitants. The resulting pyramid structure creates a network of internal corridors between the apartments. These spaces are mostly used as personal gardens or balconies as most of the Hong Kong citizens prefer to sit outdoors in one’s balconies. The apartment interior is rather simple and allows the residents’ the flexibility of complete customization.
