The Notre-Dame Cathedral had stood toll for centuries till it came burning down on April 15th, 2019.
The very first issue that was identified was that the timber construction of the old cathedral. It had a heavy timber construction with large open spaces. This meant that during the time of its construction there was no passive fire protection systems captain place. The firefighters even though reached on time were struggling to face the fires due to the delicate condition of the roof. The helicopters and planes were pulled out as the force of the water are more likely to cause a structural failure. They had to make use of hooks and ladders two douse the fire. This difficulty in fighting the fire from outside forced the crew to enter the building. This proved largely ineffective as the firehouse and all needed amenities could not be easily carried around the narrow church and there also arose an obvious risk of injury and the heavy timber roof to collapse on them.
