The Distorted Art Gallery

Design studio, Marte Marte Architecten has constructed the State Gallery of Lower Austria in the town of Krems in a way for the building to have appeared to shift and warp as the viewpoint changes. The site of this interesting art gallery sits between the Kunsthalle Krems, hand the distinctive Caricature Museum and also faces the Danube River and the historic centre of Krems. The unique contribution to the structure comes in the presence of 7,000 rhombus-shaped zinc that clad the hyper-parabolic surfaces on each side of the structure. They can be compared to the armour of the old as they facade the entire building. Zinc was chosen for their amazing malleability and for the creating the much-needed twisting elevations. The white-cube floors of each of the four State Galleries of Lower Austria has a sloping wall that mirrors the exterior. They also house four shallow glazed arches which have respective elevation from the ground level. They are the first sight for oncoming visitors.
