Goodwood Festival of Speed

The centerpiece of this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will be a 31-metre-high sculpture of the legendary Aston Martin DBR1 car zooming off into the sky. The GFS is an automotive festival that had its roots in 1993 taking place in the grounds of Goodwood House in West Sussex, England. The Aston Martin DBR1 is one of the best known racing cars of the 1950s and is also the most expensive British-made car ever sold. The project was designed by British artist Gerry Judah, engineered by Diales and fabricated by Littlehampton Welding. Judah is renowned for his numerous giant steel sculptures which he incorporates into the festival every year. Last year he designed a 52-metre-high star supporting six Porsches. The 2019 edition has an extremely simple structure and it rests on a slim foundation from the first look. The most challenging aspect of the project was to get the right balance to the forty-seven-ton piece of steel.
