Vanke Design Community

Research-based Architectural practice with a special interest in the pattern of Chinese urbanization, FCHA in association with Urbanus has designed a campus-like park of concrete offices topped with green roofs in the new Vanke Design Community in Shenzhen. The project offers continuous, open-plan office spaces and more private, smaller workspaces for groups of around 30 people. FCHA itself has two plots located along the eastern side of the site, owned by developer Vanke. The site rests on a gently sloping province and will provide park-like spaces at ground level and well-lit workspaces beneath. The centre of the plot is flanked by wide concrete staircases and thin corridors on either side dig deeper into the slope. "Under the guidance of the landscape and urban design, the project connects the ground floor and basement floor through large green slopes," said the studio. The entire area has been constructed with a palette of fair-faced concrete, glass, and steel.
