Beijing Daxing International Airport

The Airport terminal building in Beijing, will become one of the largest in the world when it opens on 30 September 2019. The Beijing Daxing International Airport is located on the opposite side of the city from Beijing's existing Capital International Airport. The 700,000 square-metres airport was designed by ZahaHadid Architects and has been done so as to be able to handle up to 45 million passengers a year, with plans to increase its capacity to 72 million passengers by 2025.  The building features a six-pier radial design, which drew inspiration from traditional Chinese Architecture which is arranged around a large space in the centre and interconnected spaces around a central courtyard. This arrangement was incoperated so as to minimise the distances passengers have to travel when checking in or transferring flights at the extremely large airport. The public areas of the project will house a dark, polished-stone floors and white undulating ceilings that open up at regular intervals to create huge skylights
