Furniture Factory Turned Into Loft-Style Apartments

Popular Russian builders DNK Architecture Group have transformed a furniture factory from the 1980s in Moscow into apartments. The development has been named Rassvet Loft Studio after the Rassvet Factory, which stood at that site. The builders claimed that they wanted the apartments to resemble medieval row houses

The concrete prefabricated panel of the Rassvet factory was replaced with hand-made bricks. Fired at high temperatures, these bricks produce a shiny surface for the exterior of the building, which has zinc framed windows. According to the builders, each house has its own face but is distinguished by the color and texture of the bricks and the framed windows and balconies. Each apartment has an entrance and a small garden that is raised on a podium; whereas, at the top, the apartments open out onto small terraces. One of the many spectacular aspects of the building is a circular cut-out on the ceiling of the block’s main entrance, which brilliantly resembles the logo of Rassvet Loft Studio. This cut-out creates a beautiful patch of light on the wall that moves throughout the day.
