Village Café in India

Designing studio Portal 92 has designed the “Village Cafe” in Moradabad, India. Supported by a frame of monolithic concrete portals, the café is supposed to evoke the feeling of an Indian Village. The spaces are split across two levels, where the locals are provided with both indoor and outdoor places to eat around a maze-like winding route. The tables are placed outdoor behind low walls and planters filled with plants. The serving area is sheltered by a curved canopy, which is next to an indoor bar. Clad with terracotta plaster, the place claims to offer warmth and vibrancy to its customers. The exposed concrete and white plaster on the inside create a simple and open space that contradicts the vibrancy of the terrace and also has custom hanging light fixings that are carved from wood. Moradabad has a rich history of brass trading, so a range of brass vessels have been added into the design, decorated the walls or sit on top of plinths.
